Sleep masks

A mask makes the room dark when you cannot: a bright street light, a partner on a phone, a nap in the afternoon. Comfort comes first, because you will only wear a mask that you forget is there.

Mulberry silk eye mask

Smooth and light on the skin around the eyes.

Look for

  • Silk on both sides, or at least on the side that touches your face.
  • A soft filling (silk or cotton) that blocks light.
  • A wide, soft strap, or an adjustable one that does not pull hair.
  • A seller who says how to wash it.

Skip it if you wear lash extensions. A contoured mask keeps fabric off the lashes.

Rough estimate, not checked RM20 to RM80

Contoured (3D) sleep mask

Moulded cups sit around the eyes, so you can blink and nothing presses on your lashes.

Look for

  • Cups deep enough for your eyes.
  • A soft edge at the nose, where light leaks in.
  • An adjustable strap.
  • A cover that comes off for washing, or a material that you can wipe clean.

Skip it if you sleep on your side and the cups press into the pillow. Try a flat silk mask.

Rough estimate, not checked RM10 to RM40

A small tip

A mask sits on your skin every night. Wash it once a week by hand, and let it dry fully before you use it again.
