Scrunchies

A scrunchie wraps the elastic in fabric, so it holds hair more gently than a bare hair tie. Silk and satin slide, which means less of a dent in the morning.

Mulberry silk scrunchie

The softest hold. Good for sleeping and for fine hair.

Look for

  • "100% mulberry silk", ideally with a momme number (19 to 22 is common).
  • Elastic that is fully covered, with no rubber showing.
  • The size that suits your hair: skinny, regular or oversized.

Skip it if you lose hair ties often. A satin multipack costs less to replace.

Rough estimate, not checked RM10 to RM40 each, sometimes sold in sets

Satin scrunchie multipack

Many colours for a small price. A good way to find the size you like.

Look for

  • Smooth satin with even stitching.
  • Elastic that springs back after you stretch it.
  • "Satin" or "polyester" stated honestly.

Skip it if you want a natural fibre.

Rough estimate, not checked RM5 to RM20 per pack

A small tip

For bed, tie hair loosely. A low, loose plait or a loose bun on top of the head works for most hair types.
